Cookies and similar technologies
This page lists every cookie and storage item we use, why we use it, and whether you can turn it off. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) require this for every cookie that is not strictly necessary.
1. What we use today
LandlordCheck uses two local-storage entries and no cookies. We use Vercel Web Analytics for cookieless aggregate page-view counts: it sends a page-view ping to Vercel without setting any cookies, without writing to your device, and without recording anything that identifies you across sessions or sites. We do not run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, or any tracker that identifies individuals. We do not run advertising tags.
| What | Why | How long | Strictly necessary? |
|---|---|---|---|
localStorage landlordcheck:wizard | Save your wizard answers between steps so you don’t lose them on a refresh. | Until you click “Reset”, or 7 days idle. | Yes |
localStorage landlordcheck:wizard:postcode | Cache the postcode-to-council lookup so your result page does not refetch. | Same lifetime as the wizard draft. | Yes |
2. What we do not use
- No cookie-based analytics. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views in aggregate without setting cookies and without identifying you across sessions or sites.
- No advertising or remarketing trackers.
- No social-media share trackers.
- No fingerprinting libraries.
3. If we add identifying tracking in future
If we ever add non-essential cookies, fingerprinting, or any other technology that identifies you across sessions or sites, we will add a consent banner to this site first. The banner will let you accept all, reject all, or manage individually, with each option equally prominent. We will not load any non-essential cookies until you have made a choice. Cookieless aggregate page-view counts (which is what we use today) do not trigger this promise because they do not store anything on your device and do not identify you. This page will be updated to list the new items.
4. How to remove the local storage entries
Open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Application tab, Storage, Local Storage, landlordcheck.uk, and delete the entries above. Alternatively click the small “Reset” link inside the wizard.
